Maybe you are not convinced. Often people miss their existence because we have been so habituated and normalized. Thoughts are often felt like identity and given full weight like a definitive self-story. Often we have merged with our “inner-parrots” so much so that it is quite hard to see beyond.
Still, there are ways to find evidence of the Sub-ego and Ego’s presence. We can see its actions retrospectively when we behave in ways that we wish we wouldn’t. Out of alignment with our values, ideals and goals the puppeteer strings of parrots can be sensed.
We can additionally see the settings of the ego when we analyze our thought chains. We can sense the internal dialog of the default mode network as we judge and indulge in fantasies of mind. The underlying programed drives can be witnessed as they jockey for narrative power over the system.
The best binoculars to see your parrots is found through meditation and self-reflection. It is hard to not see the first parrot when you still the second parrot in sitting meditation or silent prayer.
