A fish is born with no lessons.

Similar to fish, we are born unconditioned (beginners mind) and the world shapes us into our behaviors, identities and egos. The experiences that we have, the cultures we are brought up in, they teach us. This honing, or tuning, is lifelong and sometimes has gaps or warping. This can lead to mistakes and trial-by-error learning. It can also be taken advantage of and manipulated. This is akin to not recognizing the lures, tactics, sounds and shadows of fishermen.
